Memorandum.
BRITISH LEGATIION PEKING.
30th December 1929.
With reference to my despateh number 333 of
October 29th. last, concerning the appointment of the
Superintendent of the Chinese Telegraph Office at long
Kong I transmit to you herewith a copy of a despatch
which I have received from the Governor of the Colony
in reply to my letter of October 29th. together with
a short memorandum whách, I think, sete out clearly
the requirements of the Colonial Government in this
matter.
You should take a suitable opportunity to ex-
plain the position on the lines of the enclosed memo-
randum to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, at the sALO
time suggesting that if he thinks it desirable he should
furnish you unofficially with the name and further par-
ticulars or any person whom his Government desire to ap-
point to this office in order that I may sound the liong
Kong Government as to his acceptability, as proposed in
my despatch number 210 of August 20th.

that the attempts of Kr. Lua Chih-yun to assume office
without their consent having been previously notified
